Enhance Your Product Being Found
Customers need to able to find your products easily no matter what page they are on. You cannot guarantee that a customer will start browsing from your home page therefore good navigation and search should help them.
- Create distinct categories to organize your products.
- Mega-menus can be used to help organize multiple categories, making it look clean and easy to manage.
- Breadcrumb navigation enables customers to identify where they are on your website and will help them backtrack or broaden their search if necessary.
- Keep the search box in the same location, followed by a text field and a “search” button. This is usually located on the top right hand corner.
- Make sure your search accepts colloquial synonyms and common misspellings.
- Help users get faster and more relevant search results. Predictive type-ahead helps users select the appropriate terms before completing their search. This helps eliminate types and provides common alternatives.
- Display results based on relevance but give users the option to refine, filter, compare and sort results based on various criteria and to control the number of results displayed at a time.
- Give the customer a summary of the product information (like Amazon does). It speeds up identification and selection especially when you provide the customer with relevant information such as pricing, availability, ratings, shipping details and other relevant information.
